Winter 2017 Game 4

Playing an international game reminds me of coaching in Spain. Too bad we didn’t go into Mexico to play. This game allowed players to get additional minutes on the floor. Way to HUSL out there because the way we shot the ball in the game, we needed that HUSL. As a team we shot 20% from the field, 30% from the arc and 71% from the stripe. Great teams shoot way better than that. Let’s make an effort of working on our shots at home and our shot selection where ever we are shooting.

Game notables: The Con-artist grabbed 9 rebounds and 2 blocks…welcome to the league! Ice age got a steal and assist. Ruff Ryder got 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

Winter 2017 Game 3

B&B Ballers is a new name but an old team. They changed the name and kept the same game. This was a feel good win because we lost to this team last summer by 1 point. That game we missed 22 of 25 free throws and 52 of 62 field goals. I didn’t have to go back and look at the box score, I never forget losses like that aka the “Free-throw Game.” Ahhhhh winning is not everything but losing like that is hard for me to forget. That same tournament we played Dynasty aka the “Foul Game” in another loss but that is another story. Since those games the team has rattled of 14 wins and 1 loss.

I really would like to recognize Riley’s play this weekend. He was reacting to what the defense gave him and initiated his offensive game. It’s nice to see his game evolve. I celebrated inside when he stole a pass from a teammate. It doesn’t count as a steal but I see his HUSL. He played like a veteran this weekend.

Super Steve has another big game playing the 5. He collected 8 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks and sealed the paint so #0 couldn’t penetrate and take his euro step layup. Great job SS33.

Justin The Butler served up 14 points. I don’t usually mention the top point getter because getting the most points should be enough. But I really loved the way the boys recognize who is hot and made a concerted effort to get the ball to the player.

Other BIG numbers, Rowen with 10 rebounds and Josiah with 8 steals.

We started of low scoring, which was good. Nothing was forced and we made good look and took good shots. As for the team we did a great job. The expectation is for everyone is to be ready. Yes you will make mistakes and I expect it. It’s a part of the process. Once the mistake is made, just go about your business and get the ball back. DON’T just stand there and give me like a deer in the headlights look. HUSL back and defend. Everyone knows you made a mistake, don’t compound it by looking at me. Let’s get out there and HUSL.
